USTMA is hard at work on behalf of the U.S. tire manufacturing industry before federal and state policymakers. Our work spans a broad range of the industry’s strategic priorities and focuses on supporting and advocating smart, proactive legislation and regulation. Read on to learn more about some of the industry's priority issues.
USTMA supports eight key policy priorities for the expansion of advanced technologies and responsible infrastructure:
- Revising NESHAP regulations to promote science-based rulemaking in enforcing the Clean Air Act, and limiting the deleterious effects on the U.S. tire manufacturing industry, the U.S. economy and the environment
- Preserving global supply chains of imported raw materials and equipment vital for domestic tire manufacturing
- Eliminating outdated tire testing regulations and implementing a consumer information program with performance standards for tires*
- Increasing demand for domestic manufacturing of retreaded tires for commercial vehicles to grow American jobs, increase supply chain security, and enhance
- Investing in infrastructure for safer roads and smart civil engineering projects using recycled tire materials
- Identifying mitigation solutions for roadway runoff to protect stormwater
- Ensuring fair, equal and standardized access to digital vehicle data and infrastructure assets
- Developing domestic sources of sustainable natural rubber

* Bridgestone Americas, Inc., Continental Tire the Americas, LLC, GITI Tire (USA), The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Hankook Tire America Corp., Kumho Tire U.S.A., Inc., Nokian Tyres Inc., Pirelli Tire North America, Inc., Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas Inc., and Yokohama Tire Corporation support federal implementation of a consumer information program with performance standards for tires. Michelin North America dissents from the USTMA position on that issue, and supports all other industry priorities stated in the USTMA letter.
