USTMA Kicks off National Tire Safety Week: Aug. 31–Sept. 6
August 31, 2020
The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) today kicked off its yearly consumer tire safety awareness campaign, National Tire Safety Week, from August 31 – September 6. This initiative, “Know Your Roll,” educates motorists about tire care, safety and maintenance.
The week was originally scheduled right before Memorial Day, but was postponed due to the pandemic. However, USTMA and its members felt it was important to hold the campaign now with mobility increasing across many states and essential workers continuing to take to the road to perform their jobs. Safety has never been more top-of-mind among Americans and knowing the basic principles of tire safety and maintenance is critical to ensuring the safety of motorists everywhere.
“As we continue to navigate a new world impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, tire manufacturers continue to create the smartest and most sustainable technologies that put the safest tires on the road,” said Anne Forristall Luke, president and CEO of USTMA. “National Tire Safety week is an initiative that educates drivers about the critical role they play in maintaining tire safety and ensures they have the information they need to successfully prioritize safety on the road.”
USTMA member companies have also been leaders in safety through innovation, investing billions of dollars and countless hours engineering safe, sustainable tires. Today’s tires grip the road better, are more fuel efficient and last longer. Increased efficiency brings benefits to both the environment and your wallet. New designs and materials have enabled continual improvements and breakthroughs like run-flat tires, which function as far as 50 miles after a puncture.
USTMA is committed to helping consumers understand important facts about tire care and maintenance. Our members’ public outreach initiatives empower drivers with the knowledge they need to stay safe. A number of member companies, including Bridgestone, Continental Tire, Cooper Tire, Michelin, Nokian Tyres, Pirelli Tire and Yokohama Tire have developed initiatives focused on the annual tire safety campaign.
U.S. tire manufacturers recommend drivers check tire pressure monthly, regularly check tire tread depth and ensure their tires are rotated and properly aligned. Proper maintenance and periodic inspections by a tire professional are essential for optimum performance and service life of tires.
National Tire Safety Week is an annual industry-led initiative designed to help consumers learn simple yet essential steps for proper tire care and maintenance and is supported by USTMA members: Bridgestone Americas, Inc.; Continental Tire the Americas, LLC; Cooper Tire & Rubber Company; Giti Tire (USA) Ltd.; The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company; Hankook Tire America Corp; Kumho Tire U.S.A., Inc.; Michelin North America, Inc.; Nokian Tyres, Inc.; Pirelli Tire North America; Sumitomo Rubber Industries; Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas Inc., and Yokohama Tire Corporation.
