USTMA Members Give to Local Communities

December 23, 2024

Across the United States, the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association’s (USTMA) members make mobility possible by safely transporting millions of Americans and millions of tons of goods each day. Tire manufacturers also employ more than 291,000 people in manufacturing, distribution and retailing. Beyond their vital role in the economy, USTMA’s 11 member companies are dedicated to contributing to communities where they live and work. Through robust charitable giving and volunteer programs, our companies foster positive change year-round. Here's a look at some of the impactful ways USTMA member companies supported their communities in 2024:

Bridgestone
Bridgestone’s Founder, Shojiro Ishibashi, understood the responsibility that a business has to provide value to people and our planet. For decades, his words, “Serving Society with Superior Quality,” have echoed across our global company and remain the mission and spirit that has united Bridgestone for more than 90 years. In 2024, the Bridgestone Americas Trust Fund continued this legacy through investments of more than $3.2M into local communities and non-profit organizations serving society. Bridgestone corporate giving and Bridgestone Americas Trust Fund grants benefited organizations working in four focus areas of impact. These included:

  • Health & Social Services – supporting community-based organizations that connect and mobilize resources for underserved or underrepresented populations
  • Nature & Environment – benefiting organizations that preserve the natural world for current and future generations
  • STEM & Education –funding educational institutions and non-profits with a heavy emphasis on developing diverse talent in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)
  • Equity & Inclusion - sponsoring organizations that create equitable access to opportunities and resources for marginalized and historically underrepresented communities

In addition to financial giving, Bridgestone West has empowered the passion and competencies of its 61,000+ teammates to sow good seeds for the future through ongoing volunteerism. Teammates participated in activities addressing road safety, education, environment, health support, disaster relief and equitable access in our communities around the world.

Giti Tire
Giti Tire sponsored its fifth annual STEAM Competition for K-12 students in Chester County, South Carolina. This competition, which brings together Giti-sponsored math and science clubs in schools across the county, provides hands-on exposure to new technologies while fostering critical problem-solving skills and a passion for discovery.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has a long history of supporting its communities around the world. Through associate volunteerism, Goodyear associates contribute their time and talent year-round helping to improve our communities.

During Goodyear’s annual Global Week of Volunteering — the company’s largest community program — the company collaborates with community partners to organize a week of meaningful, engaging volunteer experiences for its associates. In 2024, more than 2,680 associate volunteers logged over 11,250 hours, while completing 228 projects to support 100 non-profit organizations in 40 locations across the globe.

Additionally, this December, Goodyear continued its tradition of supporting local communities through its 14th annual toy drives in Ohio, Florida, and California. In partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, the company collected donations for the Marines’ Toys for Tots Foundation. Over the past 14 years, these drives have delivered more than 277,000 toys and raised more than $767,000 for children in need.

Hankook Tire
Hankook Tire pledged $125,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville, a contribution supporting the renovation of the Parkwood Community Club baseball fields. This project is part of a broader initiative to establish a 59-acre park and build 26 new homes, creating opportunities for recreation and community building.

Yokohama Tire
Yokohama employees worked with international nonprofit Rise Against Hunger in 2024 to make 40,000 fortified, shelf-stable meals for distribution to communities worldwide. Additionally, Yokohama partnered with three environmental nonprofits: Tread Lightly!, an organization dedicated to promoting outdoor recreation and conserving public lands; the North Orange County chapter of Surfrider Foundation USA, dedicated to protecting the world’s oceans and beaches; and the California State Parks Foundation. In 2024, Yokohama employees actively participated in projects across the U.S., from the desert to the ocean, helping protect vulnerable environments.

Michelin North America
After Hurricane Helene left a trail of destruction across the southeast, Michelin provided meals and shower facilities to affected employees and opened one of its campuses as a hub for emergency workers. Michelin donated several thousand bags of ice and provided additional support for critical needs across impacted areas.  Michelin also partnered with the Best Defense Foundation, Delta Air Lines and Boeing to sponsor 48 World War II veterans to return to Normandy, France, for the 80th anniversary of D-Day in June 2024. Michelin employees also volunteered at United Way of Greenville SC packing 1,150 dental care kits and 600 literacy kits for Greenville County students.

Toyo Tires
Toyo Tires employees in Bartow County, Georgia, contributed over 200 hours of community service supporting projects including school career days, charitable 5k races, community clean ups and clothing drives. Toyo Tires also provides financial support to nonprofits across northwest Georgia, including Advocates for Children, Backpacks for Buddies and United Way. Funds were also donated to support JROTC, music, sports and robotics programs in local schools.

Pirelli Tire LLC
Pirelli Tire LLC continued to make contributions to The Ray, a nonprofit in Georgia that engages in road safety and sustainable mobility projects with the goal of zero deaths, zero waste, zero carbon and zero impact. Pirelli also supports the Berry College Longleaf Pine Project, an ongoing initiative to repopulate Georgia’s portion of the Appalachians with an important native tree species, and the Coosa River Basin Initiative, which seeks to protect and preserve the upper Coosa River basin in north central Georgia.

Continental Tire
Continental Tire continued supporting the Kick Childhood Cancer (KCC) campaign. KCC helps raise money for the fight against childhood cancer. Continental matched all donations up to $50,000 during the KKC challenge in September. This holiday season, Continental Tire partnered with the BMW Performance Center in Riverside County, California, to host a festive toy drive to support children in the local community. Continental employees also donated school supplies at the beginning of the school year to support students in Sumter, South Carolina.

These efforts underscore USTMA members’ deep commitment to the communities they serve and call home. We believe it’s a calling and privilege to support local charities, uplift America’s veterans, foster education and participate in volunteer projects.  As we look ahead to 2025, USTMA and its members will remain steadfast in our mission to make a positive impact.
