People are our most important resource. USTMA members are committed to both the safety and innovation of our products and the design and operation of our manufacturing facilities. Simply stated, we continually strive to improve workplace safety and health.

  • USTMA Members' proactive efforts have led to a54% reduction in serious injury and illness rates from 2005-2020
  • 100% of new employees at member facilities receive safety training
  • 83% of USTMA member company facilities have safety and health management systems currently in place. These comprehensive programs integrate four interdependent elements: Management Leadership and Employee Involvement; Worksite Analysis; Hazard Prevention and Control; and Safety and Health Training

Recognizing a Tradition of Safety Leadership

USTMA’s Sustainability Awards for Workplace Safety and Health recognize and advance the steps that USTMA members have taken to improve workplace safety and health for our most important resource, our people. The Association's Innovation Awards are based on proactive leading indicators: safety programs, technologies and systems that are notable in their creativity and impact.

USTMA honored Goodyear with an Innovation Award in the technology category for its motion capture app that performs ergonomic risk assessments.USTMA awarded Michelin with an Innovation Award in the culture category for its “Bib Bowl” stretching initiative, which helped Michelin’s facility record a 7% year-to-year improvement in ergonomic-related injuries.

OSHA Safe & Sound

  • USTMA joined the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a partner in its Safe + Sound awareness program. Safe + Sound raises awareness of the value of safety and health programs and includes more than 200 partners.
  • The campaign highlights programs that find and fix hazards as well as successful worker engagement activities. It provides USTMA an opportunity to highlight the U.S. tire manufacturing industry’s workplace safety and health efforts.
